About 25 members attended the psoriasis support group gathering which was held on the 29th May, 2008 at the NSC cafeteria. Members were treated to a wide variety of finger foods at around 6.30pm. By the look on their faces and positive comments uttered, everyone seemed happy and satisfied.
After the light dinner, Ms Lisa Goh, the Medical Social Worker, gave a brief opening speech to welcome the members, and to thank them on their active participation that helped to foster a closer relationship among our members.
The programme followed with a speech on the "Effective treatment options and procedures" by our guest speaker, Dr Cheong Wai Kwong.
According to Dr Cheong, it is always helpful if psoriasis patients can accept their conditions. This is, of course, easier said than done. One's mental outlook must be positive so that we can live life to the fullest.
Dr Cheong highlighted the importance of partnership and communication between doctors and patients. Patients should voice out their concerns if they have any issues on the treatment given. Each treatment works differently on every patient. There is no standard formula.
The highlight of his talk was when he elucidated the right method of applying the medication and scalp treatment. Consistent care is the key to controlling both scalp and body psoriasis.
At the end of the talk, there was a question and answer session where the members’ questions and concerns were addressed by the speaker. The gathering seemed to give our members a sense of hope and optimism to move forward in their journey with psoriasis
