I have been a psoriasis patient for more than 30 years. Initially, like everyone else, I found it disturbing and I did anything and everything to find a solution to the problem. I tried traditional Chinese medications, PUVA, various topical creams and oral medications including methotrexate for a number of years. The results were usually encouraging but temporary. The different treatments gave variable responses and the psoriasis recurred after variable periods. I have decided to stop all treatment for the last 10 years. After much research and thinking, I have come to realize that the best medicine is SELF-LOVE and LESS-FUSS!
I am resigned to the fact that
With so many other critical illnesses around, we patients with psoriasis should thank ourselves for having the least threatening problem as compared to the many other diseases.
Family support is important and educating the people around us about psoriasis must be an ongoing effort. No one seems uncomfortable with a cancer patient, but why do some shun psoriasis patients? Once people understand that psoriasis is not infectious, they will be able to accept us better.
I am confident that if you keep your stress within manageable levels, psoriasis can be contained. Be responsible to your body. Understand that your immune system cannot be compromised and continue to live healthily and not allow stress to take its toll on your life. There are more important issues in life to take care of other than your work.
On a lighter note, so as not to take my illness too seriously, I use "psoriasis" as my password for my internet projects, a word that most people do not associate with and often cannot spell it correctly the first time round!
Hopefully with medical research, a cure may be found soon. Until then, life goes on.
Do not value them only when you have lost them! Yes, psoriasis is a problem. However, there are other priorities in life and we should not dwell on one problem at the expense of other important ones. Move on with life and be thankful that there may be others out there who have bigger problems than you!
You have only one life. Make the best of what we have!
